The seal is tight enough that my stews come out way more tender without me having to check on them constantly. It's heavy, yes, but that weight really does lock in all the steam and makes simmering feel foolproof.
I've been braising a lot more since this arrived, and the fit is snug enough that steam barely escapes. It's heavy, but that's exactly what you want for keeping the heat steady during a long simmer. Honestly, the moisture retention has made my stews noticeably better.
